After a thorough cleaning, the camera was back to working condition again. Sent to Canon under some other class action and got it back the same way, code E18.

Get this...dropped it in the river! This person had a similar lens error to yours and fixed it by grabbing and holding onto the lens barrel as it was attempting to reclose. They're pretty much the best option if you need to have a Canon repaired. click site I too thought my camera was done for as it was dropped on a hard floor and landed on the lens barrel. None of these methods involve opening the camera, although some have potential to cause other damage to the camera if excessively done. This seems to be a common problem with this camera but if it happens to you try this fix and let me know if it works. Having said that I am an adenturous type myself, I regret it sometimes, so I would search out a service manual and at least take it apart and look for something news Turn switch to view mode twice (this will force lens take store position).

I dropped my canon powershot SD800IS in the middle of my european vacation. Posted April 25, 2013 3:26 pmLorettaHi....same error....shuts off so quick, I can't get a hold on the lens!! Then I decided to try and run a business card around the outside area where the lens extends. But by following the DIY instructions on this site - pushing down on the wider gap side of the lens while turning the camera on - got it back working.
I will now try compressed air when the lens is extended.
