I will now try compressed air when the lens is extended. If this doesn't work turn it on alternating between video, auto, and camera modes (while tapping). I know mine got dirt in the lens. Deze functie is momenteel niet beschikbaar.

I have had this error a few times in the past and have fixed it with switching batteries.

Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. A side issue, I bought an IXUS 145 in a different country to Australia, my home country, and Canon Australia is currently refusing to consider a warranty repair/replace for the screen I got the dreaded lens error message saying that the camera would shut down which it didn't. I managed by push the lens in the direction that there is the larger gap between the lens and it housing and set the lens back to its parked position.
It's going to happen. The lens was like 1mm out and the protective blades almost closed, so it was so easy.
