Finally heard it and then turned on camera and amazingly, the lens withdrew and camera is fine now.I stress - this is a ''do or die'' type of action. The thing that worked for me is #7;; Forcing the lens in. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try. so annoying. Just like magic the lens was able to pop out and I could take photos again! I tried point 4 on the "how to repair E18 error" ie pushing the lens gently where there is a gap.
