I found that the spring for the batteries had gone a bit down. I'm not buying Canon again. Possibly, there's a piece of sand, dirt, or grit in the mechanism causing the binding. I'm upset because I love this camera more than any camera and my brother shouldn't have been using it in the first place.

You spend $100-$200 getting it fixed, and you still have a relatively outdated piece of equipment that might break down again. It should be checked first.
