Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Can you tell me if it is clock or counter clock ways and how much pressure can I use without making it worse? The other day (out of the blue) upon turning off the camera, the lens would not retract, a buzzing sound occurred, and the message "E18" popped up on the LCD. Was this answer helpful? Bezig... Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. It was my son's first day of pre-school so the timeing was awful.

You will once again hear a little "click" as it pops back in place. I pulled the batteries, tapped it against my palm a few times, put them back in and it worked! the picture quality isn't the greatest either, i have seen several 3.2mp cameras out perform this a80, panasonic lumix dmc-33 come to mind as well as several in fujis and sonys

I would hesitate to recommend any of the point and shoot Canon digitals. When I turned it on again, it would retract the lens and pump it out again. So, making a judgement based on those forum posts is a bad idea, IMHO. Read Canonís official explanation of the E18 error.
