HiI tried all your tips and eventually had no option but to force the lens. This extra power can be useful in overcoming grit or sand particals that may be jamming the lens. Again, this didn't work for me, I suspect the grit has ended up in the cogwheels below the barrels. Hasn't worked since.

Yeah! I\'ll see if I can get it repaired. This can normally be attributed to a dirty camera case or other grit getting into the camera mechanism.

Thanks to those that suggest leaving the camera in playback mode when not in use. How is Canon not recognizing this is a flaw? The fist thing you should do is remove the existing batteries and the memory card from the camera, wait one minute and then put the batteries and the memory card back this content I tried it one more time, just for kicks and it worked!!
I have a GE A730. Canon Powershot Sd1100 Lens Error Restart Camera But when i press the shutter button, the camera will not take a picture. I LOVE(d) it, until it just stopped working and gave me the (seemingly now famous), E18 message.

It\'s about 6 years old and have had no problems until a month or two ago when the CCD went (known Canon problem, fixed under Canon recall). And yes, the cost of fixing usually exceeds the value of the camera. I have a Pentaz Optio E40 and the lens is every time stayed out. I guess I tapped hard enough to break something inside, it looks like a small bulb that is also now white... I wasn't even able to figure out how to get to the mechanism I was seeking without breaking some parts. FinePix A500: had this solution, tried everything. Shouldn't you still be able to download these pictures from your memory card using a simple cheap card reader?
