This seems to revolve around the Toucan.tmp files. Maybe your nfs connection is really slow. For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration.

You can test file transfers speeds with rsync over your nfs link and see how fast that is.
