The idea is to try to dislodge any sand particles that may be jamming the lens barrel stuck. But I noticed there was a small gap and the lens was actually crooked when I sat it down. Restarting the camera doesn't do anything. I guess the lens gets jostled and needs to be jostled again to realign it. It might just be i really messed up my camera but i tried ALLL of the ways and nothing worked... More about the author Lens error recorded lens will not open.
the lens must be replaced. Its been working since then. I'd say go for it, or it's bigger brother at about the same price, the A570 IS. Sometimes it comes on and work OK.
