Canon Powershot 400 Memory Card Error
MM,Recommend trying number 1 first. The camera seemed to be confused with the size of the card and that was causing the problem, initially said 3MB for the card but after formatting a couple of times My camera worked fine up until just before my sons birthday. Of course it could be that the issue with your camera is not a firmware problem but something else in which case this fix may not work for you. check my blog

Although the SDHC card looks exactly the same as a standard SD card, the format the card uses is very different. I had taken the other battery out aswell, this might have made a difference.

I had this 'Memory Card Error' problem this week.. My CF release doesn't spring open, so I have my suspicions! It's NOT an issue with the cards or compatibility, it's CANON!! Could you please advise and clarify for me as to which step I should do first: 1.
Reformat memory card using the "Format?" function under the Menu "Setup" tab. I know how to dismantle the camera. If this occurs with only the one card it is likely that the memory card is defective, if the error persists over more than one card the camera may require service.
